CE 6 Training
Who
Educational Technology Services conducts
CE 6 workshops for faculty, teaching assistants and staff in the design and
development of courses and the effective use of online tools to facilitate
teaching and learning. Participation is open to any member of the
Florida International instructional community at no charge.
How
The CE 6 workshops listed below are offered in both face-to-face and
fully online formats. Face-to-face workshops are 2 hours long.
Online workshops are estimated to take from 2-4 hours to complete.
In both formats, participants acquire CE 6 knowledge and skills and then
apply the knowledge and skills in hands-on activities and exercises
within a course. Both face-to-face and online workshops are
facilitated by a professional trainer.
What
Six
workshops encompass all essential CE 6 content and tools. The first
workshop, CE 6 Overview and Course Design Fundamentals, is a pre-requisite
for the remaining workshops. The remaining workshops may be taken in
any order; however, for optimal learning, it is suggested that faculty who
wish to complete all six workshops take them in the order listed below.

Design Fundamentals* |
This
introductory workshop is a hands-on overview of the course
management system at FIU. You will learn how to navigate the My Blackboard space and the
Build, Teach, and Student Views inside your course. You will
also learn how to build your course by adding tools and
content to your Course Tools Menu and Homepage. |
| Presenting
Content in CE 6 |
In this workshop you will learn how to set course
goals, present content and learning activities through Learning
Modules and Media Library collections, and use the File Manager
to manage your course files. You will also discover how to
control who sees your course content - and when - with Selective
Release.

| Interacting with Students in
CE 6 |
In this workshop, you will learn how to use
communication channels to keep students informed and
enhance interaction in the online environment. You will learn
how to use the syllabus, announcements, and calendar tools to
communicate essential course information to students. You will
also learn how to use CE 6 communication tools to interact effectively with students and build a
community of learners.

| Creating and Managing Groups
and Assignments in CE 6 |
In this workshop, you will learn how to create
and manage groups and assignments. You will learn how
to use the Group Manager to create and manage student groups,
including group sign-up sheets for students and group discussion
boards and chat rooms. You will also earn how to create individual and group assignments;
review, grade and publish assignments; and create Grading
Forms (rubrics) for assessment.

| Managing Students and Grades
in CE 6 |
In this workshop, you will learn how to
effectively manage information and perform administrative tasks
in your course. You will learn how to set up and use the Grade
Book tool to manage students and grades. You will also learn to
use the Tracking tool to generate a variety of reports on
student activity in your course.

Creating and Managing Assessments in CE 6 |
In this workshop, you will learn how to use the
Assessments tool to create surveys, self tests, and quizzes that
include a variety of question types. You will also learn how to
view, grade, and run reports on assessments using Assessment
Manager.

*New
faculty - faculty who are teaching an online or web-assisted course for the first
time - should attend a face-to-face session of the pre-requisite workshop, CE
6 Overview and Course Design Fundamentals. New faculty may then take
the remaining workshops in either format. Existing faculty - faculty with
WebCT 4.1 or other course management experience or training - may take any
of workshops in either the face-to-face or online.
When
All
workshops are offered multiple times during the semester in both the
face-to-face and online formats. Face-to-face workshops are held on
both the University Park and Biscayne Bay campuses.
